The autofocus on the 1D series is SO much better than the xxD series, It's a whole new level of amazing.

I'm nothing but impressed.

Ya AI know what you mean. I got mine about 3 months ago. Love the shots!

I don't think people fully understand until they try one. I hear a lot of, "Hey the 30d focuses plenty fast." Sure, if that is what you are used to. Just like Diet Coke starts to taste like real Coke after awhile.

AF speed was a huge factor in me ditching the 5D and going back to a 1D series.

What tool did you use to make that animation? I didn't realize a gif animation could look so good!

I'm sure you were shooting AI Servo mode, but what was your AF setting? (Auto AF or single AF point {center-point}) Thx

Once you get 1 series, xxD seems so slow.

Mike-

I've found that even on a 1-Series, having 2.8 glass still makes a difference in AF speed, especially in low light situations. As a sports photographer who often works in low light (high school gyms/dungeons, night field games), I am still able to use the AI Servo mode on my 1DII in the lowest of light when I am using my 2.8 lenses, not so much when I am using my one 4 (300 F/4L IS). For this reason, I forced myself to buy fast glass before I stepped up from an XT 350D to the 1DII.

thanks,, i was thinking the lower f rating was only apeture related.. so the lower f rating increases af speed, heck! this site rules.. my next lense will have IS to haha.. rc planes over 100mph are tricky. thanks again

Well, if you think about it, the camera can only AF on available light. If more is coming in (the lens is wide open to help with AF until either the shot is taken or the DOF preview button is pressed), the better AF can function.

Center Point.

Jasc Animation Shop. Just an old program I had laying around.

Yeah it's nice to have 8-10FPS in case you wanna make animated gifs.*

*I have a 1D II also, and I pretty much never use 8FPS except for doinkin' around to make stop-motion video.

yea, iv have been useing high fstop to allow more in focus shots, the paper thin focus has no use for most of my shots.. i just need a better rig haha

I use it a lot because its hard for me not to. I'll get like 5 shots by accident. Especially the vertical button.

Coming up from the slowest focusing camera, no matter what glass, in the history of AF (Sony A100) the 1D is just on a completely different level.
Nice stuff:D

Stopping down shouldn't affect your AF speed unless you use DOF preview while trying to focus.

nope i just hit the buttom, at the highest shutter the light will allow, and try to get the lowers iso i can use to avoid noise... then again this is the xti im talking about..
