FYI when my mother shoots she leans to the left. I keep having to fix all of her horizons.
Lisa is real bad for that too. I have the grid focus screen in my 5D which does help her (me too) :D
this is so funny...he posted 8 min ago and I hear him snoring in the office now...gosh I wish I could sleep as fast as he does.
When I am ready to nap, it takes no more than a minute to zonk.
I have a question. There is a shot that I am about to work on that has some great clouds in them. A little enhancement would make the wonderful. What is the best way to enhance them?
Yep, you got your mother straightened out good there Jamie. ;)

Viveza is the fast way to do editing...but the long way is
I selected the white of the clouds and brightened them and added just a touch of contrast
then I selected the gray in the clouds and brightened them just a touch.
then I selected the greens in the land and brightened them a bit and added just a touch of contrast...by giving the greens dimension, it pops the blue in the sky so we don't have to edit it...

I finally answered TPBM...
Well done, reminds me of Sea Hunt.;)
CONGRATS! That sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.
Thanks Cat, I think it will be, this Director gives us a lot of artistic license. When I did 2 X 2 with him, I had to name off a couple dozen antelope, think I got the line right one time. Anyway, one of the last was Something Buck, I couldn't remember and said Star Buck...he told me to keep it in the line.
the doc said, 'He should not be the tallest person in a lightening storm.'"
This cracks me up. So glad things are going so well for Adam. I hope after all is said and done, he finds a career he enjoys, sounds like he is a determined survivor and will not let this bring him down for long.
Let Terri know the prayers and good thoughts are continuing. And thanks for the updates.
I like a one piece better than bikinis. Call me wierd if you must. But a one piece to me if more flattering of a figure (even if she has the body to wear a bikini).
However Tankini's are as flatering as a one piece and much more practical for certain necessities.
Cat, Gail posted a photo and wanted some help with it...and this "help" I thought you'd appreciate...

OK, Update from the Terri Front.... I talked to her, but so did Lisa, which means Lisa will have better intel than I...
They got him to sit up today and expect to get him up on his feet later today. As they sat him up, the feeling in his legs got even better.
He'll probably not have full movement in his back, but he'll be mobile. Logging as a career is probably out as is his future in cage fighting. But the doc said that, outside of that, he will be able to do anything he sets his mind to.
Quite a change from the outlook a few days ago, huh?
Terri also said they took out the post surgery "drain tubes" and she was able to see the bolts in his back (cool, I think).
Lisa's here to dictate the rest of the story:
"Sat up for ten minutes."
"He has three screws in his back and the doc said, 'He should not be the tallest person in a lightening storm.'"
"The feeling is better in his hips and the burning sensation is less than yesterday."
"They are all very encouraged by his progress today."
"Terri says, 'Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It means a lot.'"
Lisa passed on the msgs you asked to pass on to her. Terri was very touched.
Terri, "Have chocolate cake on me to celebrate." And she and Frank will be driving home tonight and she'll be posting a cell phone shot of the x-ray of his back with the bolts.
Cool.
Thanks for the update :D
THAT'S GREAT!!
Whatever it takes. Dire situations required multiple skills. I also do a menacing Moray Eel, too.
Pardon me borrowing Becky's comment but...

Could you folks help me out a bit.
My monitor is not calibrated - however, it has never looked too far off when viewing the pictures on here. Having said that, I have recently updated the driver for my video card... :?
To cut a long story short, last weekend, I created some collages for three people from church who had been baptised. When I printed them, they had a distinct green cast that I had to go back and correct, even though I thought it looked ok on my screen. That made it harder to correct and it took a few attempts :(
Here's a shot from last year - back before the updated video driver...
http://newquay-plus.com/ee/photos/800/Oast_House_Roofs_03.jpg

http://newquay-plus.co.uk/POTN/IMG_5830_1024.jpg
My question is, do you see a green colour cast in either or both shots - or is it my printer that needs more setting up? Both appear ok on my monitor but I've printed other stuff in the past that appeared ok to my eye...
Thanks for your help folks....

I have issues... I don't know exactly which way I lean... but I have to correct lots of my horizons....
Is the horizon crooked or is it the lay of the land that is killing my eyes?
FWIW I have permission from my Mom etal to post these
To me it looks ok... having read the rest of the thread.... it's apparently crooked... I'm useless for horizon correction... TLC I can do though! hehehehe;)

I've done baptisms in creeks, ponds, swimming pools, actual baptismals, near waterfalls, in a cow trough (one of those big ones) but never the ocean. :( In Oregon, that could be a near death experience.

Thanks everyone - that's set my mind (partly) to rest. I've been worrying for the last week that everything I've been producing recently has inadvertently been rubbish (well, the colo(u)rs, anyway, I knew about the content ;))
I'm feeling a bit more confident about processing some more shots now :D - I must admit it put me into a bit of a funk.
Wait... a baptism in the ocean? Sweet! :D
Yeah, it's great fun. Normally, they try to time the 'dunking' with an incoming wave. I've got some great shots and of each and created a collage of five to six shots and given them to the 'baptizees.' We've had five baptisms already this year :D

At my previous church, we used to 'borrow' the swimming pool at one of the local hotels. I believe they've now purchased a baptismal that can be set up at the front of the church each time they want to use it.
I was almost baptized years ago in a creek... but it was December so I passed and we went to a larger church that actually had a baptismal....
When I was baptised, the church I was attending had a baptismal in it. It was filled each time from the cold water main and had to be heated up before use. When I was baptised, they hadn't heated it enough - that was colder than the ocean would have been  I assisted with a few other baptisms there afterwards. We always allowed a lot longer to warm the water than we originally thought...

Did you go into it? Are you allowed to explore it?
Yep. I've been inside a couple times. There are something like six miles of tunnels, spanning three or four levels. I checked out two of the levels. It sure does get dark fast when you go into a mine!
Technically, you're not allowed to go in. There are three entrances and all were sealed off, but someone pried the metal door off one of the entrances many years ago, and people go in all the time. The entrance that is open now is really kind of hidden. I never would have known about it if someone hadn't told me where it was. It's behind what's left of the stamp mill. You have to climb a rickety ramp to the second floor, and the opening is at the end of some ore car tracks.

Curiosity. I use an old parachute bag for luggage. I picked it up at an old Surplus store for $5 in 1988. It's my favorite bag.

You ever wonder why, when at the store, we gasp and balk over paying $8.99 a lb for a good steak, but we don't even bat an eyelash at paying over $25.00 a pound for jerky?
Seriously.
We don't buy steaks very often because the it's just too much for us, but will buy a 1/4 pound bag of jerky for $6.99.
There's something wrong with that.

Speaking of dogs, Winnie is so laid back. There are firecrackers going off all over the neighborhood and she hardly lifts her ears. She is a Golden Lab and is used for hunting so she is use to the noise.
At her house there is a fenced yard out the door her pack uses so she is use to going out whenever anyone leaves the house. She is so quiet, we don't realize she has just followed us out the door until we our outside. She is also well trained and goes right back inside for us. Because this is the first time we have watched her, we put on leash, just in case...we'd feel terrible if anything happened just because she isn't use to being at our house.

I can't stand sleeping with pets...I let them stay until I'm ready to sleep and they they have to go
I've always let the puppies sleep on the bed, then moved them to their own beds on the floor when they get older. I just love snuggling with puppies.
Wade is fairly lenient with that, as long as they get moved off when they are bigger an intrusive.
We have a King bed, so we've got quite a bit of room.
Anyway, Amikah moved from lying next to me and being cuddly, to the foot of the bed, and wrapping herself up into my legs.
That messes with my back and throws me all out of whack, because I have to sleep a certain way to keep myself in line. When she's at my feet, or around my knees, or legs, I subconsciously move my body around her.
After my last visit to the Chiro (not a fun one) he asked me if I was sleeping differently, or if something had changed. Wade tattled on me. and Doc told me to move the dog to the floor. *sigh*
So now I need me a teeny little cuddly puppy to sleep with.
I think maybe I didn't have enough stuffed animals as a child, and I never grew out of my teddy bear phase.

Jamie, if you keep catching up like this, we're going to have to find something else to tease you about.
This is so out of character. :lol;

That shouldn't be too hard to do. Just tease me about my photos. I give you good material.

It was a very lucky catch. Five minutes earlier I had walked out of "The Shutterbug" camera store in NW Portland with my new 100-400. On the way home I saw this while driving across the river. I parked on the other side, then ran back out onto the bridge in the pedestrian lane and got a few shots.
Yay for the 100-400! I can't believe Shutterbug had it. I can never find anything there. Pro Photo, maybe, Shutterbug, hardly ever.
Nice shot, BTW.

So that I don't spend all night hunting (I have it at work but not here) where might I find that nice neat dragonizer action.
