hey new to the site and new to photography...haha complete newb! well yea i just got a Canon A95 for an early christmas gift an im really enjoying it. i don't know too much about photography yet but im learning slowly. I was just wondering if i could get some opinions on a couple pictures i took today. the first was a fake rose haha and the second picture is my friends hat with a glass penguin (just in case you can't tell what it is). i don't have a tripod yet and the pics are resized but yea here they are...

Lack of light seems to be a problem in both pictures
1.Try to take a flower macro shot in daylight
2.as for 2nd shot there should be more light

Both shots are underexposed, all the information is there it just needs to be brought out. Use Photoshop or some other program and adjust the levels and contrast.
I hope you don't mind but I altered the artificial rose to illustrate what can be done. However, even that could do with further treatment. Have fun.
