Camera needs a clean so I do a search on the internet and find a company in Central London who advertise a same day clean price. Turn up yesterday to drop my camera in and i'm told that because they were busy the same day service would cost an extra 20%. Does it say that on your website I ask. The answer? No. Strangely enough my camera didn't get cleaned.
Nowhere on the website does it mention this charge.
Rant over, I feel better now!

WTF? Surely with the extra business they should be happy, and not force you to walk away from them.
My 1D3 also needs a clean. It's NEVER been cleaned (always did my 20D myself, but too scared to touch the 1D sensor )
Which place was this?
I found a repair store, which also do sensor cleans, and wondering if it's the same place. As maybe I'll avoid them too

What does that have to do with 'rip off Britain'? You think that kinda BS doesn't happen world-wide?

I think two points are raised with this one. The first is that you did exactly the right thing by walking away from them. The sooner they realise that trying this kind of thing doesn't actually bring more business in the better.
The second point is... learn how to clean your own sensor. Honestly it's not hard to do, you don't have to part with your camera, and it's a LOT cheaper. You do hear of people damaging the sensor but in reality a little bit of common sense and you'll be fine.

Agreed ... it is easy as pie. I got a simple kit off eBay and have done the 30D, 40D, 5D and 1D mk II N with it. Works like a charm. But there are some folks who just don't have the gumption or think they need to scrub at it. For those best left well alone ;-)

Nah mate ... I'm always serene and calm innit! ;)

Just prop open the shutter and run it through the dishwasher. Comes out clean as a whistle!

Yeah, but don't forget the rinse aid. It stops all those streaks ;)
