I already have a DReb for my main camera, but my wife and I are wanting something a bit easier to carry around on trips and for her to use on an everyday basis. I want something that allows me the capability to get a quality shot that has some room to work with if I capture something worthwhile on a trip.
Which would you choose and why?
Thanks for the input.

Happy Holidays Leonard, I can only speak of the Pro1 since I have used one in the past. If the new firmware update has improved the AF, thats the one I would go with. The combination of the L lens and the 200mm zoom range makes it a great carry around camera. Maybe someone on the boards has used the new update can make comments.

I have the S70, and so far I think its pretty good. Easy to use, small, very good quality, excellent for travel i think. Never use the others so I can't tell you about them.

I also own a S70 and highly recommend it. I am a previous owner of the S50 before I upgraded to the S70. I think the camera is great if you want to bring it with you on little trips. I bring it with me everywhere I go. It is not as small and compact as some of the others but it is a 7 megapixel camera that I can fit in my pocket. I have never used the others so I too can not say anything about those.

I have the rebel and S1 IS with 10x zoom...
While the megapixel count is lower than that of G6 or Pro1, it's still quite big and I leave it at home all the time.
Ideally, I'd trade it for something small like Elph or similar cam. Smaller the better... you won't get the versatility of the rebel, but you'll get the shot because you brought it with you.
That's just my experience.
Happy holidays

I have an S70 and Pro 1..... along with a 10D and a 1D.
I love the S70 but don't really use the Pro 1 any more. The Pro 1 is bigger so doesn't fit in your pocket whereas the S70 does easily.
Though it has good detail in its images the Pro 1's images are noisier than the S70 even at ISO 50. Image quality from the S70 is excellent and from the comparisons I have seen on the net not really any different than the G6. The G6 is a tiny bit better - which it should be given it has a better lens - but I want a camera I can slip in my pocket. The S70 fulfills this and the G6 is not quite the right shape.... too square for the pocket. If space and carrying it is not an issue I will take the 10D anyway.
I don't need a medium sized compact - just little in the S70 and large in a 1D/10D! FWIW the S70 is by far the cheapest of the three compacts you list as well.

i'll put in a word for the G6 here -- the Pro1 is very nice, but quite large for those times when you don't want a really big camera.
the S70 is fantastic, but the G6 isn't that much bigger and has a better lens and sensor.
i recently brought by 10D kit (4 lenses, flash, etc) and G3 on a trip to the galapagos. both were equally useful. after getting the 10D, i learned the magic of always shooting RAW, and the G-series cameras let you write RAW files. This is a huge advantage for me, as i'm very picky about quality.
so for me, the best balance between size, features, and quality goes to the G-series. the flip-out screen is FANTASTIC. i didn't get a digi SLR for a long time because i was so in love with the flip out screen on the G3 (composing overhead shots, ground shots, stealth "from the hip" shots are all possible without getting into uncomfortable positions).
my ideal camera would be the body of a g-series, an EF lens mount, the EOS 1Ds MK II CMOS sensor, and the flip-out screen. tasty.
you can see the photos from the vacation here:

if you look at the image filenames, they are prefixed with the camera name (10d, g3, a70). the RAW-converted imgs from the G3 look VERY NICE. G6 would be even better.

Someone asked this question on another board recently. Aside from the zoom (Pro1 is 28-200) and the fact that the Pro1 comes with "L" glass, I noted the following:
-LCD screen on Pro1 swivels
-Pro1 can accept filters
-Pro1 has diopter for eyepiece (not sure if S70 does)
-Pro1 comes with Lens Hood
-Pro1 Super Macro mode is great
-Does the S70 have a hot shoe like the Pro1?
-Does the S70 come with a remote like the Pro1?
I guess I'm a litte biased...especially after the firmware upgrade. I now look for reasons to carry the Pro1 instead of my dSLR

No, the S70 doesnt have a hot shoe, doesnt the L glass, and doesnt come with a remote, but you can buy the remote for $35 at best buy. Still its a chepest camera jeje
If you are going to carry with a PRO1, a FLASH that gets in to the hot shoe, filters, etc. May be you better carry with your DSLR jeje Thats my opinion, I think its a GREAT CAMERA, with better lens, and more pro, may be if you are considering to only have one Digital Camera, with a lot pro functions, the PRO1 its great one.
But as me that I want to have a DSLR (20D that I hope to get in a few months) and a more confortable & portable camera with great functions, the S70 was my best choice and buy it first to get practicing so when I get my 20D I know a little more about Digital, RAW, WB, etc.
This is only my opinion based on my experience and my needs.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
