Hi all,

I need an advice on used MAC, I am thinking about changing my platform for degital post processing. I am thinking about getting a used MDD MAC, it's 1GHz Dual Processor G4 with 1.5GB PC2700(333 Mhz. DDR SDRAM Corsair w/heat sink) of ram and, 1MB DDR SDRAM L3 Cache, 4Ti 128mb graphic card, Airport wireless card, 240GB HD,Superdrive for DVD/CD, 10/100/1000 Base T- Ethernet card, Macromedia Studio MX Full, iLife...and offering it for around $1300.00 dollars. My question is? Are this fair price and good enough for next couple of year or so? As, I am not too familiar with MAC's. Thanks in advance. Adobe will send me a new copy of Adobe PSCS(MAC) for cross platform exchange, would only cost me shipping charge as I have full retail version of Windows PSCS.

Cheers,

Charles,

You can get a brank new single 1.8 GHz Power Mac G5 for $1499 and a dual 1.8GHz for $1999.

You can use the new G5 prices as a reference to see if what they're asking for the used G4 is a fair price or not.

that seems a little bit high. That machine probably will be good for a while, but if you are considering a long term solution, i would go with a G5 proc. i would also go with a dual proc. (dual G5 1.8) - $1999.00 It's alittle more than the computer you mentioned, and it's not as loaded, and you will need a monitor. Both adobe and apple really take advantage of the dual proc. as well as the added RAM that a G5 will allow. Adobe seems to get better and better with each revision in terms of using dual proc, using 64 bit, etc. Apple will be coming out with a new OS soon (tiger) that will also be heavily optimized for duals and 64 bit. So, the computer you mention is really good and will work fine, but if you are looking to keep this 5 years, you might be interested in biting the bullet and going new and adding (more ram, new monitor, etc.) later when the budget allows. my $0.02

Thank you for your advices...I am going for new G5 dual processors, it's kind of silly for me to spend money on a used MAC, it's going to be obsolete in couple more years, litte high I thougt as I don't need all that studio mx and stuff...
