Will probably be used for weddings.Professional work requires professional equipment.

For more info on the differences between those units, look here:

The built in bounce card on the 580 is surprisingly useful, and being able to take a battery pack is very useful to speed up recharge time. Get a 580.

Personally, I go for the 580 if only for the extra power when bouncing.

(incidentally, speedlight is a nikon gun. Speedlite is Canon)

Yeah the external power possibilities for the 580 is essential IMO. I use my dad's two 580 with Quantum Turbo 2x2 external batteries! Works like a charm!!
I personally have a 430, which I use for "small" shoots and for fun...

Seeing you may use this for weddings and churches can be dark, I would definately go with the 580EX ii.

Last thing you want is to be short power and be forced to up your ISO.

Of course if you need to buy a backup flash for the 580EXii at some point, the 430EX may fit the bill...

Not exactly. Speedlight is a generic term, speedlite is the Canon brand

I am neither Professional nor am I rich. I have a 580EX which is moving to second flash/backup because I just bought a 580EX II. In fact its on the truck out for delivery right now :D
Go big or stay home!
Its well worth the extra 150USD.

BARBIE,

It's a little late since it looks like you have made your mind up, so this is just to confirm that I think you made a great choice!

I see in your profile you have the 40D I tried a 580EX II on my 40D at a camera shop Tuesday and love it! the flash menu and flash function menus come alive on the 40D when a 580EX II is attached. I'm upgrading to the 580EX II, but all is not lost on my 430EX flash, a cheap umbrella & stand and the 430EX is ready to be an off camera wireless slave.
