A phrase I read often is, "the xxxx name on the bag just screams, steal me !" I may have used it myself too (shame on me...)

I didn't think hard before buying a bag with Canon logo on it. I don't think it matters much.

Just realize that a certain type of bag just screams "photo / video gear" or "laptop", logo or not. The pro photographer at the wedding I just was at (with over $4K tag) was carrying a bag that had no brand name anywhere and looked expensive as hell.

E.g. I just love the "Urban Disquise" brand name. They seem to market to people who want their equipment "hidden". Sort of " hey, you don't want to steal this bag, it doesn't have expensive photo equipment in it, just a boring expensive laptop..." ;)

If you want your equipment to be disquised, buy an easily identifiable general purpose backpack. Otherwise, don't kid yourself. Whatever logo your photo bag or a backpak may or may not have it's only going to fool the people who don't care & aren't a threat anyway. Well, some photo backpaks do look "generic" enough, so they may be "safer" but I'm yet to see a photo bag that doesn't look like a photo or a laptop bag.

And you're venting this because... You had your equipment stolen?

You're not implying that us "screaming" bag users for the purpose of "hiding" our equipment are stupid, right? :)

All jokes aside, I agree that general purpose bag offers much more discreetness than any urban-style bags.

Want the ultimate "stealth" camera bag? Just buy a diaper bag for your gear. Who's going to steal a diaper bag?

Yeah, the camera around my neck usually "screams" I'm carrying camera equipment. :) If you're somewhere you are that worried about people stealing your camera bag, maybe you shouldn't be there. Or at least you shouldn't be there while carrying anything.
