Since I can’t get 550EX to perform up to par with my 1D in the ETTL mode, I have been using Metz MZ54-3 in the auto mode. It is much more consistent for most applications with my 1D. However, when shooting night football with 400mm f/2.8 lens, Metz MZ54-3 consistently underexpose the images by 1 to 1.5 stop. Even with the underexposure, Metz is still better than 550 which would expose anywhere from +3 to –3 all over the board.

I have spoken to Bogen (distributor for Metz) about this underexposure problem and was told that when shooting a distance greater than 15’, Metz tends to underexpose and just dial the exposure compensator on the flash to +1. They also stated that when I am shooting football action 30-40 yards away, the MZ54-3 maybe underpowered and suggested for me to look into Metz 60CT-4. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=35111&is=REG

Does anyone have any experience with this model? TIA. Ben
