Does anyone know if this lens will focus properly on a 20D? It has a variable aperture and it is F6.3 at the long end. I've heard that non "1" series cameras will not focus at f stops smaller than f5.6. So, my question is ...Does it focus autofocus until you zoom to 500 and then you must manual focus or what ? thanks

Focus for the bigma works fine on a D60, so I can't imagine a problem on the 20D. I must focus manually only if I add a TC.

Thanks iof......Do you like the lens and what would you pay for a nice used one?

I love this lens and have had a ball using it. I paid $900 for this lens new from Canoga Camera over a year ago, and would buy it again in a heartbeat. Used prices are a value judgment only you can make, but I would't sell mine for what I paid for it. Some examples of my shots with this lens are at:

Artistic merrit aside, I think the lens did pretty well.:)

Well, it worked just fine on my 10D as well. Can't really imagine any reason why it would do any less on the 20D. Great value for money lens, although I would urge you to consider Sigma's 170-500 F5.6 as well, if your budget is already stretched too far after the purchase of your 20D.

Thanks Rob....I have 2-20D's and 3-10D's so my money left a long time ago. I think I can get a 50-500 for about $600 and I make my camera equipment money with my photography(weddings). Sounds like a great lens though. thanks for your reply.

It lies to the camera, and tells it that it is 5.6 where in fact it is 6.3
