So I need to compile a bunch of pics onto a CD to bring with me to an interview on Monday. They want something to show I basically understand dof, etc. They said they'd prefer portraits. Does it matter that most of my favorites were taken with previous gear?

I can't even begin to know which pics to bring. This isn't really for an artistic job as it'll be photographing sports teams, but my shallow dof stuff is obviously more artistic. Anyone willing to have a look at my thousands of photos of the kids and pic out like 10 they like the most?

My son's b-day party is tomorrow, so I have to make goodie bags tonight. Looks like Sunday's going to be a long day. How do you people choose? These are mostly of my kids, so I love them all. LOL. ;)

Thanks for any input.

Thanks! Not sure if I should cheer just yet, though. Haven't got the job yet, lol.

Seriously people, any advice? What do they want to see? Group pics of family members, individual shots? I don't even know where to begin. I went through this once before and was baffled. I don't want to use the same images because I think I've done better over the past year. But I have no idea what they want to see.

Never having done one myself, I peeked around the web and found a pretty good suggestions on Luminous Landscape.

He's got some pretty decent suggestions and guidelines.

Good luck on the interview.

It won't let me view your family 08 gallery...but I see several on other pages that are very nice. the little guy with the butterfly on his finger. The boy on the monkey bars...the butterfly...the cat!!! Definately the cat...

Anyone care to take a look at some pics I've put in a make-shift portfolio on my website? The password is "sadie". I put quite a few on there and want to narrow it down. I think they want a sense that I understand dof, composition, and basically know how to photograph people. I know these are not exactly professional grade. I just need to show I can use my camera. Thanks for any feedback.

if there's one single shot that stands out for me, it's the wee chap with the truck on the last page. Framing, mood, dof, exposure, lighting - all rolled into one. Definately one for the CD. :-)

Thanks so much for taking the time to look. I will have to check all that out. My Dad and Stepmom stopped by on their way up from FL to NJ late tonight, so I'll have to get up to speed again tomorrow. I trust your opinion and appreciate the help.

Wow, those were surprising selections. It's strange how you get so caught up with your own kids and your gear that you can't see your pics like an uninterested party can. I appreciate all your comments. Keep em coming. I'll be curious to see any similar trends. Thanks!

I agree with the cat. But if this is for sports photos maybe take your boys somewhere with a sport field and try getting some shots with them running around. Or just something like a sports photo. Or even maybe go to some sports games to practice / get examples of what you can do for them. But if you don't have time to do that the cat is defiantly one!

Well, I've come to learn that these photos will not be sporting action shots - they will be team pictures and head shots. They said they really wanted "portrait" type images. So I'll likely choose from my kid pics.
