OK all, tell me what you think of the Sigma 28-105mm F2.8-4 Aspherical so I can decide whether or not to buy one.
Cheers

I'd heard many bad comments about this lens so did some searching.

Overall i'd say avoid it unless you NEED a large aperture zoom and can only afford this one.
Remember that the Canon 28-105/3.5-4.5 has a very good reputation and is a genuinely good consumer zoom.If you can cope with the smaller max aperture, everything else about it is far better

Don't bother.
If it is new it should work on a DSLR and if not sigma will chip it for free. If it is used and doesn't work then you might have to pay for the chipping.
It is F2.8 from 28 to about 35mm - not a lot really.
Af spends a lot of time hunting compared to a very cheap canon like the 28-90 plastic mount thing.
Soft. I noticed how soft ot was when I shot slides so on digital (specifically cameras with a crop) you will feel the softness more.
Save your money, buy a decent lens. How much is it going for?

Many thanks for your replies and advice. I think I will give it a miss and probably go for the Canon 28-105/3.5-4.5
Cheers

A wise choice, that canon is a fine lens!

I have the original 28-105 which was a super lens for my eos film. When I got my 20D I had comuniation problems so I bought the Tamron 28-75. Meantime Sigma fixed it but I have not tried it yet. When I bought it mit w2as rated better then the Canon.
