Time lapse?

i dont know much about how the digital camera works, but i have a Powershot A40. Anyway, i was wondering if there are (somewere out there) firmware/software upgrades for the camera that would allow certain features to be incorperated into the camera, such as time lapse? Besides canons "service upgrade" on there website (all it did was supposibly "fix the AF accuracy" or something), are tehre any other places to find custom files/upgrades done by a person/group of people that are NOT official?

Remote Capture has an interval shooting feature that allows you to set the camera to take a set number of pictures at set intervals. You could then convert the images to .GIF and turn them into a single animated .GIF
