I think the first you posted, to me just looks like a P&S shot, but I especially like 2 & 3 out of the shots you posted nice focus on the couple together.

All things in perspective I assume that this is one of the first weddings you did.
Based on that I think you did a fantastic job.
I don't consider the large DOF an negative because after all these things come with time.
Good job.
Keep it up and you are well on you way.
I'd say on #2 a tight crop would do wonders.
Same for #6.
On the BW group shot some S curves or a bit more contrast would work.

The wedding party was very pleased with the photo turnout.
Just by the wedding party showing these photos to friends/family, I have already schedule 4 more weddings this year.
Not bad I say.

As mentioned earlier, additional use of tighter cropping (either with longer focal lengths, or in post processing) can add a lot of creativity and style to your shots. It also helps get rid of messy backgrounds and undesirable elements by leaving them out of the from.

some good shots
number one is very ordinary like a point and shoot guest cam. number 2 i like and the last one...
I notice you have a 50mm f1.4. use the 1.4 to 2 aperture range for some shots to really make the couple stand out and give the shots something that you couldnt get with a point and shoot cam. well done , great start and keep up the good work.

Number one and two could have used a different perspective IMHO. You could have crouched down straight ahead giving the couple and picture a larger than life composition.....Sort of like they are on top-of-the-world look. And used the wide end of your lens to get the applauding guests as they look on.
The best for me would be the fifth.I like the B&W, the composition and perscpective. It could use a little bit of contrast though and the squinting is distracting.

I'm surprised no one has pointed out the obvious (to me) on #5... they are posed in direct sunlight, making them all squint. Looks like the two guys at the top are in the shade, so maybe if you would have moved them all up a few stairs, this would have helped.
Keep shooting!

Good for you!
I like them. Looks like you had a difficult time getting the bride and groom to be happy together.

I am going to be harsh here.
I always see people say, well they liked them, so they must be good enough. You need to realize that a lot of people don't realize what good photography is. If you want to ever move beyond a 300 dollar craigslist wedding you need to try and improve your skills and not just say well the couple liked them, they must be good.
They aren't good. They look like snapshots. Here's the individual reasons:
1 - Blurry, flashy, just.. not good? Not even a GOOD snapshot. This one is a trasher, I would never send this to a client.
2 - Also blurry.
3 - Were they on a platform? Try to avoid shooting from below if possible. Also, I would have cropped this in tighter. WB is off. Seems soft. The trellis is distracting.
4 - Looks like a snapshot. No real composition here. My in-laws took the same kind of photo at my wedding, but I think it actually looked a little better than this. They have a nice P&S.
5 - Highlights are hot, conversion is really flat.
6 - I guess this one could be a fun outtake if it wasn't green. Some of the best focus out of all your photos.
In short. Just because you have four people with poor enough taste to hire you doesn't mean that you're good. You should always strive to better yourself.

Alan,
I have to agree for the most part with auroraskye.......the shots are ok but there is nothing to them that says professional. Please take the above criticism as a way to improve. Even with the high end weddings that I do I am always trying to improve what I do and learn from my mistakes.
Remember in wedding photography there are many things that need to be done to set yourself in the professional category--the problem is that you need to do all of them at once and you need to be comfortable with your shooting to make them happen. Sometimes you have to really work to make bland backgrounds, expressions turn into keepers. Your shots are ok for a first time--- great that you have other customers but in truth if you need to make some adjustments and improve.

#5. Fig-leaves don't look good, IMO. Not well arranged either. Sitting/standing combo would have worked better. That being said, #5 is the best of the bunch.

I think they do lack that "pop", but I really like #6, that is a great capture.

That's four more people that'll at least give him money... whatever puts food on the table I guess. I only wish the crowd was like that in Chicago :D
Aurora you make very valid points and I think you're spot on. Personally I don't like giving harsh C&C because I'm relatively new here :) but honestly when I ask for C&C on my photos I want a professional answer (good or bad). I think the OP can take away a lot and learn a lot from this. Always strive to better your craft, I believe every great photographer started off somewhere.
And it also goes to another point for those that have to have it. The OP is shooting with a 5D and possible the 50mm 1.4
I hear this guy shoots with a Rebel.

The group shot, you have them all facing the sun. Half of them are squinting, make sure you keep an eye out for that.

It's proof that the equipment does not make the photo... The XTI is capable of great photos. Yes it DOES have it's limitations but put the 5D in a random guy's hands, it does not equate to great photos..
