My first fully paid baby session so i was kinda nervous!
I was told they were twins so was very excited! I thought they'd be a lot smaller but happened to be 10 months. As i thought they'd be smaller i really freaked when i saw their size as i've not photographed babies this big before. So some of the ideas i had i didn't try but im happy with the shots i got.

One twin (the little girl) was a lit gurther along than her brother. He couldnt sit up and wasn't in the best of moods, so tended to favour the girl mostly.

Also snapped some of the kids and family although the full family portrait shot on black background in a small room was a bit much to fit six people on..

Can't wait to do a baby thats like 1-2 weeks old so they just sleep!

More on the blog!

Ps: babies wee so much! lol

enjoy... cc welcome

I love them!
My favorites are 6,1,&2

Whatever the boy has in his mouth though in #7 is distracting. Other than that I think that one is excellent.

1 more thing... #8 his left arm looks really really long... maybe its the angle? looks like he was having a good time though :)

its black velvet. sometimes take the levels down in photoshop and pain on a mask but some are straight out of cam with contrast added

the velvet is supported with 2 lightstands and a cross bar and just spring clips...

to learn to do this its not hard... you need .. patience .... not too much tho....

you need a cam with hotshoe and a wireless trigger and receiver which can be bought from ebay...

an assistant to hold the softbox and flash inside it (i dont have anything to mount it just a ball bungee...)
set your cam to about iso 100 and f9 and the take softbox closer or further away or just adjust aperture slightly to get the correct aperture...

try make sure u get distance between subject and background and you and subject (to avoid distortion of wide angles)
try make sure you crop as close as possible and dont miss of vital points etc. you can extend the black to create negative space later....

practice on something stil.. youl be suprised how easy it is....

view www.strobist.com for los more info on lighting

Like i said im confused... so you have 2 softboxes over both your 580's and flash inside the softbox... and whats a wireless trigger like a remote? And what exactly do you mean extend the black later for negative space? i want and need to practice...
i dont have any gear right now i just got my camera 2 weeks ago...
i have my XTI with kit lens and stock flash. and a 500 watt hot light and my own 3x3 PVC Square with a sheet inside so its softens Ghetto but it was just lying around i figured id use it...

what you have will work. i hve a softbox with one 580 flash in it....

i only use one flash (the 580 insoftbox) and use it from 45degrees or so...

Hey tob! i tried the settings you said my shutter was incredibly slow how can i fix this!!!
i did iso 100 and had flash off but had my 500watt at a 45degree angle and anytime i tried taking a pic of a person they would mve causing it to blur HELPPPPP

Tobiah

ok your 500 watt flash light will not be as powerful as a flash...

i should have said set the camera to manual. and i keep the shutter to 1/160th to make sure it syncs.

you will have to xperiment with iso.. id go to a max of iso 400 (dont really want noise). keep shutter speed same.
i dont realy work with hotlights so not sure but try that and just change your aperture and iso until you get a useable speed.
the closer the light is to the subject the better. (and brighter it wil be) also then your less likely to get light falling on your background..

anymore questions just ask! :)

Very nice. Newborns tend to be harder for me. They are not always as easy as one would think. I've photographed newborns for day 1 and up. They are all different. If you can wait them out until they sleep, the better the photos. I love #1. Did you get one where both bottoms are showing?
