We all have our specialties when it comes to photography. Sports, birds, insects/plants, portraits, landscape, etc. If you could only shoot with one type of lens what would it be?
At the moment I would have to say that I like my plain old standard zoom. My 24-60 is on the camera most of the time. I like my 70-200 so it comes in second. I had a 50mm/1.8 but didn't find I had much use for it, and I had a Tamron 75-300 but upgraded to the 70-200. I think my next lens will be a UWA of some sort, I know my wife would like me to get a macro for flower shots but it's not on my immediate list.

I find myself more creative with a prime lens vs. a zoom. But, I use whatever I think will be best for the situation at hand.

You have prime other than telephoto but not prime telephoto shorter than 400.

I chose 70-200 for it's superlative IQ.
Using it negates the need for a wide angle in landscape work, providing that you avail yourself of a good panorama photomerge program.
Using TC's or extenders make it, IMHO, the most versatile lens than canon makes.

I generally use the lens that seems (to me at least) to suit the task at hand, but if I was stuck with one lens, I'd break down and cry.;)

If forced to live with just one lens, it would be my 70-200 2.8 because it helps pay the bills more than the others. Next would be my 85 1.8, followed by my 17-50 2.8

Standard, fast zoom or medium-longish prime (85-100mm), if you ask me..

70-200 2.8 IS closely followed by 24-70/24-105

I love using my 50 1.8 and when I get the 28 1.8, I'm gonna feel sorry for my other lenses b/c they're gonna be in the bag alot more than they are now!

a slightly longish prime, like a 85.

My 24-105L and 70-200L are tops. but the nod would be the 70-200

My favorite is my 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, its great for macro, portraits and many other photo possibilities.....
However I would rather have more then one lens (a benefit of a DSLR) :)

Standard zoom for me. My 17-40 is on my camera most of the time, followed by the 70-200, then the 50 for when I really need the fast aperture.

Not really a great question. Too much depends on everyone's individual choice of subject. ;)

Also everyone's individual shooting style.

I voted for the 24-70 as it spends probably 80% of it's time on my camera.

That's basically the whole point. :)

my 50 1.4 is my tride-n-true lens, it trumps my 24-70L

i voted for prime since it's what i use the most. but it could have been macro too. since one of them is the 100 macro.

If I could have only one lens, it would be the 24-105/4L. But since I have more than one lens, my 24-105/4L will be sold in the next couple of months. The 17-55/2.8 and the other lenses I have leave the 24-105/4 in its pouch.

I mainly shoot sports, I use the 300/2.8 or a 400/2.8 majority of the time.

While a favorite type of lens is a strange question I really like the TSE's. The control freaks lens. Although I don't think I am a control freak being able to have a bit of control photographically is nice. If I was up to it (the carrying and the money) I would enjoy using one of those Linhof mini view cameras with a digital back.
