If there is some purpose behind them they are probably tolerable.

Any excuse to give someone I've never met my opinion. I love 'em!

True. sometimes they can be pretty useful, the ones I cannot stand are the:
"Which lens should I buy?
A-10mm L
B-200mm L
C-500mm L
I only have about $400 to spend."
Well, perhaps as if the question itself was not suffering enough, there is the poll..."

Can there be a poll for the reason why we responded the way we did?

I like polls, but am disappointed that my vote only counts once.....:(

Yeah, good point ... my own vote should count for at least 51% of all other votes cast. Also, the poll methodology itself is always fine and it is really about the quality of the question and range of options offered that defines usefulness. One can see them as simple sport too of course, such as this one.

That's fine ... once per candidate ;-)

that was awesome. I'd have to go with the 24-105 on that one.

It's amazing that the 24-105 is beating the 24-105... I always knew in my heart that the 24-105 is a better lens.

It amazes me that even though one is listed before the other, there is almost and exact split in votes between the 24-105L and the 24-105L.

My 17-40 morphed into a 24-105 just now over the mention of that poll.

Twenty two votes, 20 posts. This is not true POTNocracy, people!!... Either get more posts, or more votes going..
How the heck am I really going to know what to do if the count is inaccurate??

Do votes cast by silent lurkers actually count?

Yeah, I think they should count.
Also, spite votes. (Say for instance, someone polls Nokin vs Canon. I think you are allowed to vote Nokin as many times as possible, just out of spite).
Hate votes are not recommended, say you can't stand someone in the forums -for instance me- , and I post a poll: "Won the Lottery, do I get...
A- Canon L lens set (10 Lenses)
B- Tokina lenses and a Happy meal."
Then it's up to you.
Lastly, I do think ALL polls should have an extra answser that is completely unrelated to the post, because it's a sure way to show you don't give a dang about it all. "Colors: A-Red, B-White, C-Blue, D-Pizza" for instance.

I think I'm going to start doing that in my polls.

I think between the two it is down to copy variation.
