View Full Version : Mydas Fly-Mydas clavatus

finally got an ID on this big fella,,

Size
25-30 mm length, wingspan to 50 mm or more,
Food
Adults (just males?) take nectar (pers. observation, P Coin). Some sources say adults take caterpillars, flies, bees, and true bugs. Others are skeptical of this.
it does resemble a large robber fly though,, it flies very aggressivley through the forrest and rarely stops for any period of time,,

Very cool shots there Jim. My book says that mydas flies were once thought to be carnivorous, but now "they" think it's a veggie eater:-)
