Dear,

what is the difference between a canon EOS 300 D and a canon EOS digital rebel EF-S kitw? Is this the same camera but one is the european name, the other the American name ?
Thanks for your comment!

Exactly. The 300D is the european name, digital rebel for the states.

I presume that is because the states have used rebel for other film cameras in the past.

Thanks! One more question : if i want to take pictures of fish eggs which are about 0.5 to 3 mm, what attributes of eos 300 D can help me with doing this ?

thanks!

The ability to fit a macro lens to it and also extension tubes if need be.

But macro is not really my area of expertise yet, I'm still learning it myself - maybe a more experienced macro photographer may come along to help :)

The 300D is fine for taking photos that small, but the kit lens won't do it. For things that small you need to buy a dedicated macro lens, one that can do 1:1 or 2:1 ratio would be best. Canon does a 180mm macro for US$1K which would be ideal, but pricey. Sigma and Tamron probably do cheaper versions. I have the Canon 100mm Macro ($400 or so) which is fine but probably not quite long enough to get a huge amount of detail.

For macro stuff that small you also need to use a small aperture, to ensure a deep depth of field, so you'll probably need correct lighting: ring flashes would be ideal, or a general purpose flash like the 420EX would be fine too.

Actually, for subjects around that size, he'll probably want the MP-E65 macro lens; 1:1 to 5:1 out of the box. Of course, it's a pretty expensive box!
