I'm new to using DPP and the whole PP thing and have a question about lens correction for distortion. I have read on several threads about DPP correcting for this on certain lenses. I can not find the option in the program. Does it do this automatically and where do you find what lenses are corrected? Any other information on this feature would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the edit image window tab, on the RHS of the screen will be a dialogue box. At the top of the box are three tabs, labelled RAW, RGB and NR/Lens.

Click on the NR/Lens tab and the lens correction dialogue should appear.

The on screen help lists the lenses covered. Currently not all Canons lenses are included, but more seem to be added at each update, the latest of which is 3.2.0.

According to posts I've read, there is another version out, but it is not listed for my 30D, so it must be model specific.

Bit of misinformation there.

First, in any window simply bring up the Tool Palette. This can be done from the menu bar (View/Tool palette), from right-clicking on an image and selecting Tool palette, or from the tool bar on the Edit Image page.
Second, if, after you select the NR/Lens tab, the lower section is active your lens is covered.
Third, the current version is 3.4 and it is fully back-compatable. Lowner, if you can't find it on the 30D page, grab it from the XSi page on the American site.

I think the current version is 3.4.1.1

I'd assumed that if the newer version(s) were useable given the search parameters I put to Canon's site, it would show them to me. Am I wrong to assume this?

I use XP, so any updates for Vista may not be shown for that reason? But if it's fully backward compatible as you say, and has useful additions, then I'd expect them to list it.

Never expect logic, reason, consideration or promptness from Canon. Probably they will some day get around to putting the link on all the DSLR pages. I use it on XP SP2 for 350D and 40D files. What it adds, apart from more lenses in the db, is that NR, after having been originally in Preferences and then moved to a Tool Palette tab, is now in both places - global baseline NR plus individual image NR.

Elie,

Thanks for the advice. I'll go and find it on your US site as you suggested.

I've been to the download section of Canon Europes site and v 3.4.1 is finally listed (not the latest, but near enough). Sadly, the site will not allow me to download it, claiming I lack the proper authorisation! I've never needed anything special before.

I have that whole section on my version (most recent for MacOS), but it's greyed out.

Que?

It pays to keep trying. I've got it! It took 1 hour 40 minutes to download the 23.5 MB file using my dial up connection but the zipped up version is now on my desktop awaiting attention. Canon finally decided to allow me access.

Is a list of lenses covered available? I'm not sure if my v3.4.1 is working correctly because the lens correction section is grayed out on images taken with the 24-105 and it seems to me that that lens is probably one of the more popular lenses and would be one of the first included.

Click (http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_dpp_32.html).
24-105 is supported. What camera do you have? This (http://forums.powershot-a.com/showthread.php?t=993) might be the problem..

(Say "Thanks Google" ;))

The camera is a 20D. I checked the exif data, and the lens is correctly listed as the 24-105 in the Lens data field. However, I did not see a field in the exif named the "Lens ID" field as mentioned in the article you linked unless they just mean the "Lens" data field.

However, an important note. This 20D is a LifePixel modified version. I wonder if something in the conversion process was responsible?

Come to think of it, in the conversion process LifePixel apparently modifies the auto focus / focal plane. Considering that, I wonder if any of the lens correction features in DPP would be relevant.
