View Full Version : Moving on from a EOS100 - help wanted

I bought a EOS100, a couple of EF zoom lenses (28-105 and 75-300) and a Cobra 700AF flash 10 years ago - all great stuff. It's time to go digital - the point and shoot the family uses has convinced me of that. The plan to slip this past the domestic authorities is to say that's I just need a new body - possibly an EOS300D but probably an EOS20D. But is that right? I reckon that I need a wider angle with the 1.6 crop effect - so the new 17-85 would be an excellent walk around lens. And will my flash work - I think the voltage is OK, but I fear it won't work on the metered mode. So opinions please on:
1. Will I get hacked off if I limit myself to the 300D?
2. WIll my flash work properly?
3. Any thoughts on the 17-85 lens?
4. Anything else I need to think of?
First posting - so please excuse the dumb questions.
Cheers,
Alun.

1. If you shoot sports or any other fast moving object the 300d is not for you.
2. Dont know
3. I would go with the 17-40 over the 17-85.
4. Lots of CF cards

Yes
2. WIll my flash work properly?
No
3. Any thoughts on the 17-85 lens?
I tried it and prefer the 28=135IS - the 17-85 will also only work in the 300D or 20D.
So, I also bought a Sigma 12-24.
4. Anything else I need to think of?
Loads - but you need to doa lot of reading

No probs - we all have to start somewhere.
