extender ?

Hi all I just got a EF 2X II it seems that the auto focus does not work but does work manualy and when mounted it seems to have a space between the lens and the extender I have enclosed a photo to show that, the lens I'm attaching it to is a 100-400 F/4.5-5.6L IS usm lens, so should this work with the auto focus or not? Thanks in advance

I forgot to say I'm using a Canon 10D with this setup.

Your image and your performance seem normal.

The teleconverter causes a loss of 2 stops. The long end of the lens is f/5.6. Add two stops to that, and you've got f/11, which is well beyond the autofocus limit for lenses.
