I think it's OK to post this here!

In the last 18 months I have been rear ended 5 times. This is the stats: 3 women with cell phone, 2 guys, 1 with cell phones. If you think I have a thing against cell phones you're right!

Two of the women pulled out and ran around me, they were still on there phones! Each ran a red light (different areas) to get away that forced me not to be able to follow because i was scared to death of being killed!
One was a young guy (16-18) that actually didn't do any damage to my truck bumper (already hit), but did stop and I just told him to go home witch he did (father called) no problems.

Awe, but then I became smart (about time), I bought one of those really cheap ($5.00) P&S Fugi/whoever cameras at Walmart and kept it in the truck between the seats for quick access.

Then I got hit again, sitting at a red light, women backed up and started to drive around me, hauling a%s, i snapped as many pictures as i could and that was that. i turned over the camera to the state police and later received a summons for reckless driving (backing up at an intersection and intention to cause bodily injury, LOL). In court I was really getting worried (big time)!
The woman was crying like there was no tomorrow and stated I should be put in the electric chair in her opinion!!!
Then the court put the photos I took on the "Court Screen", there she was in living color, not the best, but good enough!!!!!!!!!
They just plain tore her to pieces, cell phone to her ear with a cigeratte in her hand! She still had the audacity to call me a F%*kng AH !
Bottom line, without those photos you know exactly where I would be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get one of those cheap throw-a-ways and replace it every 6 months, or try to tell your side of the story, Yea Right!!

Oh, I almost forgot, the last guy was a Minister/preacher/ or worked for the church in some capacity. It must work because he was the only one who told the truth of the whole bunch! He just plain told the cop (that came) that he ran into me coming down a hill, did the cop ask why, NO!
I had to demand from the officer that he right on the ticket that the guy had run into me!!!!!!

Get the dam cheap camera and use it!!!!!!!!!

Egad, repeatedly rear-ended while sitting at lights? I mean, I've had it happen, but I think it's been once in 40 years. You are truly cursed.

One thing I used to do, back when I commuted on city streets, was stop a few feet short of the line and keep my eye on the rear view. If somebody looked like they were coming close, I'd wait until the last second and then pull forward a bit. That could give them the extra stopping room.

(Not that that would help if the problem was complete inattention...you're lucky you haven't been seriously injured!)

Never been rear-ended but I do watch for the car coming behind just in case. I agree the cheap camera is a good idea especially in a place like where you seem to live. Of course, traffic is so tight in the UK that someone being able to reverse and drive away is somewhat unlikely :-)

I'm usually the one doing the rear-ending, twice this year, nope, not while on a phone, just dumb ass driving. I stop every time, I'm insured, may as well use it. the people I have rear-ended however have not been insured, so they haven't made a clam against me. It's also a good idea to have a camera with you for things like that too, you never know what damage they are going to claim for.

I try not to drive in cities if I can help it. (coming from someone who has no cell phone or cell reception in our area - thank goodness!). BUT.. having the camera handy is ALSO good for tailgaters. ... especially the large trucks (where you can't see the "How am I driving - call (800) ### ####" bumper stickers). A good friend had to drive to Salt Lake City a few weeks ago... getting tailgated by a big rig... until she pulled out her camera and snapped a few shots. She said, even if she doesn't turn them in (which she won't), the driver doesn't know that. .. He backed WAY off and stayed that way. So even if it's used as a safety measure, it's successful. .. I wonder, now that it's illegal for teens to use cell phones in cars (in CA at any rate), if that theory would work with them as well. ?? (I doubt it.. but it might be worth a try)

I think that most of the problem with cell phones is a lack of education. Reaction time driving on the phone is about the same as driving drunk. Really.
I think that if there was a decent add campaign people wouldn't be so stupid and would be more responsible, but it won't happen on its own.

I always keep a camera handy when I am out too. You never know what you are going to see, a little photographic evidence could always come in handy.

I've only been rear ended once, a little over a year ago. We were both stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, he hit the gas before I did. Fortunately, he was insured and took responsibility.

It shocked me how much damage it caused, considering how close we were to each other when he hit the gas. He must have really stomped on it hard! The repair bill for my car topped $1,200. My medical bills were a little more than half that amount. I was in more pain for the week following that little rear-ender than three years earlier when I totaled a car.

I've got enough photos of my rear bumper being smashed up. I think there's 3 on this car in particular, where I needed a new bumper and paint

People never cease to amaze me. She hit you, drove off, and then was cursing you in court. Simply amazing.

Fortunately for me, all of the wrecks I have been in, the other people have been insured. It would upset me to know end to have someone hit me and then drive off to evade responsibility.

Wow, she hit you, drove away, then tried to turn it against you? If you hit her, how was she going to explain why she left the scene of an accident and you stayed there? Usually it's the guilty party that runs away, not the innocent one. Some people are simply amazing. lol
