No place I would rather be than in the arena when the kids - ages 3 to 18 - rodeo. I had a blast this weekend. These actually aren't very good photos (altho the parents bought them), but I like them because of the story. In the first one I was standing in the arena out by the judas sheep. The sheep usually circle around out here. Not this one. This young man always stays focused on the shoulder of his mount like he is supposed to:

What’s this, he’s looking up. Probably wondering what that guy with the camera is going to do.

Well, the guy with the camera (me) snapped the picture, stood up, and jumped straight up in the air and the sheep and rider went directly under me. The judge in the background loved it and the bullfighters came over and high fived me. I thought I was way too old to make a move like that.
The night before, it was a calf that was eyeballing me:

In this case, I just stood up and stepped to the side between the calf and the bullfighter.
Last year I had to put a bullfighter move on a bull to get out of the way - the rider had already bucked off and the bull was looking for a likely target to take his aggression out on.
Did I say I love youth rodeo?
