EF 50mm f/1.8 - Impressive

This lens was on my B&H Wishlist, luckly I got one, actually I got two, BH's wishlist doesn't take the item off the wishlist once purchased, lame, now I have to return the other one or sell it on eBay. Anyway I am really impressed with this lens. I tried taking some pics of my dog, who is 7 months old and very hard to capture since she is always moving. This lens is fast and I am loving the f/1.8. Here are just some examples:

I also just purchased this lens a week or so ago from BH, and I absolutely fell in love with it from the moment I opened it, its very fast and sharp. I love it!

Nice dog - the sharpest looking picture is the third, taken with the kit 18-55mm lens: as the performance of the 50mm f1.8 is legendary the dog must have moved at the moment of exposure!

While the kit lens isn't bad, the new 50mm 1.8 is so much faster. The last picture I was messing with some high ISO settings, that is why there is a good amount of noice. My only light source was the Christmas tree and the window blinds that were opened with a cloudy day outside. Thanks for comments on the dog ;)

Congradulation on your purchase. The 50mm f/1.8 is my favorite lens, in fact I think that most of my pictures were made with it.

It allows for a faster shutter speed due to the 1.8 correct?

In general - yes. It also renders very shallow DOF (depth of field), which is sometimes very desireable in portraits or other types of shooting.

My first experience with this lens (one of only two that I have) I was up at Mt Rainier in the wooded trail area and it was over cast and with the tree cover it wasn't exactly bright outside. I wouldn't have gotten any shots with my 28-135IS (IS doesn't help when you walking and taking pictures of friends walking). I got it just to see what a fast lens would be like, for $75 it's worth a try and it turned out to be a pretty nice lens. I take it everywhere now.
