I've searched and searched and only found this one little blurb in the Release Notes for DPP1.5

3. Notes on displaying images and information
================================================== ===
In Digital Photo Professional, no informations are displayed for
black-and-white shooting and photo effect.

So does this mean, it's pretty much pointless to shoot B&W with the 20D if you're only saving as RAW? Because regardless of whether I'm processing the RAW in PSCS or DPP1.5 none of them will show the captured B&W image. Well, acutally, PSCS will show it in B&W as a little preview before opening it, other than that, nothing. I was really hoping that I could see it as it was originally shot in the RAW program. Especially when adding filter effects like Sepia, that I have no idea how to do 'properly' in PSCS.

Have you tried using the Canon EOS Viewer Utility?

Yes. I went through this myself. You will find that there is a little piggyback file that does show up in B&W, but you will only see it in some editors that don't support raw, but still see the little jpg. The raw file will show in color in any editor that supports the raw file. I have been told that this jpg is used for the screen on the camera only. What I do if I want B&W is still use raw, but change it to B&W in PS by one of a number of methods.

Hi,

It's my understanding that if you want the B&W images from the 20D, you have to shoot RAW+jpg ...

The jpg images will use the camera's B&W settings, while the RAW will be just that ... exactly what the camera sees ... in color.

Hope this helps,
Todd
