WOW hand held at 1/15th you are steady, Nice shot good DOF. Where was you focus point on this? it seems amazing to get that much DOF at f2.8, that is one sweet lens. :) :) :) :)

Thanks Bruce and Sandy. I took about a dozen shots from this vantage point, and only one had some camera shake blurring. I liked this one best because of the way the kids were sitting in/on most of the letters. The focus point was in the center of the picture on the letter I.
Here are a few more shots from the same night:

I wish I'd thought of using the flash on this one:

All of them terrific Lonnie, I think the use of a flash on the last one would have washed out the background, I really like it the way it is, makes for a very dramatic effect. the waterfalls look like sparklers and the flash would have lost that.

Lonnie,
Excellent shots. Enjoy your work.
No doubt - capturing these handheld with a 2 lb zoom lens is impressive. What also got my attention was the aperture. I didn't realize you could get such good DOF at f/2.8. Everything is so different when you get to wide angle!

Those are amazing results for hand-held shots.
Here's a similar shot I took last year with my G3 (not hand-held, of course).

It shouldn't have. I would have kept the same long exposure to keep Grizzly Peak and the sky the way they are. A quick flash would have made the waterfall stand out a little better, though...

How did you manage to do that without hand holding it? I tried to bring a tripod into the park, but they stopped me and said that wasn't allowed. Come to think of it, I'm not sure they had the centralized security gate in place a year ago, so maybe you were there when you could still get a tripod that far...
Thanks for the comments everyone else!

I didn't use a tripod, just placed the camera on top of a trashcan or something. The shot was taken around 10:30 pm so the park was already closed and very few people in that central area.

Wow! Very nicely done, Lonnie. I really like the ferris wheel picture a lot. I'm also impressed with your handholding ability. I'd probably be 6 feet under the ground before I ever got my hands that steady.
