I was outside looking at some model homes and brought my G2 to click as many pictures as I could, so I set the resolution and picture quality so that I can take 50 pictures, and the camera showed me I have 50 pictures I could take.
After I took as many as I could, and downloaded them to my computer, I noticed there were around 90 pictures I took.
Why did the LCD show me I only had 50 when I had 90?
weird.

The remaining picture count is an estimate. Not all pictures are the same file size, so the camera cannot predict exatly how many pictures will fit on the memory card. I believe it uses a worst case scenario.
I use the default setting for picture file size: L - Fine - JPEG. Some pictures take up almost 2MB while others may be as low as 900KB. The more light translates to more information wich creates larger file sizes.
So, in low light settings you can take more pictures than the estimated remaining picture count.

That explains it then, because the pictures I took were mostly inside the house with rather lower lights than outside.
