maybe CDS will tell us what kind of heron this is. i'm still guessing green night heron (i have to be right sooner or later!).

I believe it is a night heron. I got some pictures of one this weekend at miami metro zoo (not a resident but an intruder).

The first one is definitely great!

I'll wing a guess at "black crowned night heron" and hold on while I double-check Sibley's.... Yep. Lucky for me nothing else in the book looks like this. :-)
