This is a scanned image of my late father, a photographer, that I am restoring. He served as a war photographer in Korea and later ran his own camera shop/studio. I'm guessing this is my dad in his 20's so the print could be 40-50 years old (died at 75 2 years ago). The image is an 8x10 that has seen far better days from his portfolio, but its one of the only photos I have of him so I'm hoping I can photoshop this up and hang it on my wall. I scanned the original at 600 ppi so I shouldn’t have much trouble printing at 8x10, actually in its current form I can get a 20x16 @ 300 dpi but I think I'll have to down sample this to 8x10 considering that’s what the original print was(?).
Aside from healing away the ink I've desaturated and equalized the photo. I think the equalize might have made the photo too dark but it might just be my screen, too bad I don’t have a photo printer to calibrate with.
Has anyone else tried this? Should I be able to get a 20x16 even though the original is a 8x10? Can you see any of the ink in the touched up shot? Would any other filters help this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Darren D. Kitchen
