yes, i am trying to find out if ANYWERE on this www there is somebody that has attempted some sort of modifications of the software of the camera. I really think there would be some features that would be very handy for the camera.

For instance: I am assuming the cameras internal memory ranges somewere between 3.5 and 4 megs, due to the fact that it can only record about said size worth of video/multiple captures. However, i have also noticed then when u first turn the camera on, i can take somewere around 23-27 seconds of 320x240 res video, however after i have used the camera for a while, my video capture lengh goes back down to its rated value of 15 seconds or so. Is there a possibilitie that a memory flush occurs when u power down the machine (and loose power to the ram thus flushing it)? and if so, even though it might be not EXTREMLY useful, it would still be a nice little feature if there were some sort of mem flush feature u could get to by the menu. How hard coded are the menus?

Just currious how flexible the A40 is, and if anybody has ever tried doing much with that. Is there another forum/resource page for the more "hardcore nerds"?

thanks for your time,

If you are getting more than 15 seconds movie at any time with the A40 you should consider yourself lucky. It's not supposed to.

What type of rechargeable AA battery you are using. I am looking for one which is reliable perhap charger too.
thanks.

I haven't found anywhere that does that sort of development. But if you are interesed in doing it yourself Canon have a Developer Program and supply an SDK :-) http://www.developers.canon-europa.com/

I don't think he's lucky. It happens to my A40 too. I could take video up to 23-25 sec sometimes and only 11 sec sometimes.

I don't think the data would be flushed to CF when power is low. Rather, I GUESS the video contain a tiny bit of compression so when the view is simple or doesn't contain lots of movement. the recording time can get longer. (this is a guess only!)

YES! I think I am right. I just tested. I start the video taking in a dark room and the movie has recorded for 30 sec under 320*240 mode!
when I turn the light on, the video can just take for 16 sec

I have Panasonic nickle/metal rechargables. I am impressed with how long they last. I just keep regular batteries in the pouch as backups.
