Of course the TV is covering this disaster in horrifying detail. The video is amazing.
Obviously we have a special concern for our friend, but we cannot ignore the suffering of everyone who has been directly affected. At present, the estimated death toll is 23,000 with a strong possibility that number may double.
Just awful.

Still turns my stomach.
Also my girlfriends sister, left UK for Thailand for 2 weeks, before staying in NZ for 3-4 weeks.
Left them a bit worried, that maybe they had arrived early, or were in Phuket or somewhere else affected.
Shocking to see the number of people hurt.
Let's again hope Don and Leela are safe and well, and telling their stories to the local people. Anyone checked newspaper photographic accreditations? Maybe he took some footage. Keeping positive. :)

Dear Marie and all my other friends,
We just arrived back in Hong Kong a few hours ago and thanks to a personal email from Marie, I thought I should check this forum before retiring. What a surprise -- I obviously have many more friends that I imagined. :)
We were fortunate to see the wave in time to grab the camera bag, race for a stairway and get to the second floor before the entire first floor of the hotel was destroyed. The aftermath and the trip back has been a little exhausting., so I will have to write more later but I wanted you all to know how much your thoughts and good wishes mean to us.
Take care... and many thanks.

As Horrific and terrible as this event is, It does point out how small the world is and how truly we are all connected. It is a shame that it takes something of this magnitude to remind us of how fragile life is and how blessed we really are.

its so nice that we are all alive
and able to be in contact.
life is so precious
and time is so short
~
thank you , God, for little things
that often come our way
the things we take for granted
and don't mention when we pray
the unexpected courtesy
the thoughtful kindly deed
a hand reached out to help us
in our time of special need
oh, make us more aware Dear God
of little daily graces
that come to us with sweet surprise
from never -dreamed- of places

Relieved that you are both okay - I just cannot believe the news as it unfolds - it seems so unreal but so real!
