I am asking this question becuase a possible trade I might be doing soon. I just got the 24 f/2.8 today and will say that it is a nice lens. However another photographer has approached me it a trade offer for a 28 f/1.8. I have heard the sharpness reviews of the 28 f/1.8, but what I am wondering is, is there really that much difference?

Why are you even considering the trade? Do you need the 28mm instead of 24mm? Do you need the speed of the 28mm?

The 24mm is sharper based on the MTF. However, owning the 24mm vs the 28mm is not really about sharpness but about how wide or fast a lens you need.

For me, I bought the 24mm because I need a wide lens. The 28mm is easily covered by zoom lenses.

It's really up to you, depending on your needs. Which of the two lenses fit your need?

Do not go into a trade if you do not know what you're getting into.

I own a 24/2.8, and have tested this against a 28/1.8 USM and a 28/2.8. From my samples, the 28/1.8 was the worst of the lot. The 24/2.8 and 28/2.8 were pretty close, but I found the edge sharpness a tad better on the 24. The 24/2.8 and 28/2.8 beat the 28/1.8 at all apertures wider than f/11 on my setup.

I'd consider the 28/1.8 only if I needed the f/1.8 speed.
