Matt,
Nice shots. Hope the woman is ok. My only critique, and it's not of your images, why didn't they use something to cover the pillars? I've cut more than one coat on an exposed B-post. Oh well. Great shots.

Matt great shots, my only critique is that the first one is a little dark around the guys. Still great shots though.

Wow, I hope she is fine. I see a baby seat there, I hope the baby wasn't with her during the accident. Excellent PJ work.

OK to justify me posting i will agree...the turn outs in #1 are a little dark.
And as a brother you just know we have to comment on the scene. Your on the blind side of a hill by the looks of it. All you have as a traffic buffer is a cop car? OUCH. Dude your heavy rescue should be blocking better. Just my opinion. Great shots, keep posting.

The rescue has to be that close so that they can use the pneumatic reels/hoses and keep them close at hand. It looks as though this is a 4 lane roadway. The rescue is also out of the way enough so that they can permit traffic to pass in the opposite lanes. I can see where your concerns are though. I had a good friend killed in '99 when a lady was speeding, lost control on the ice and hit my friend who was working another MVC scene. Bob and a cop were killed. I have always been anal about getting my apparatus in a position where it can be used properly and keep traffic out of my scene. Does anyone remember this:

Thanks everybody.
The woman had a severe right leg injury but is going to be ok.
The baby seat is from the car she hit. Baby is fine I don't know how the seat got into the road.

Not pictured are another 3 - 4 state trooper cruisers. The scene was very well blocked off, do we have a gigantic engine blocking to road? No, but I felt the scene was secure.

I think i may just have a case of "your heavy rescue is so much cooler than my F450" envey.
asysin2leads: I can't imagine being on the scene in that video.
So i wonder, how do you guys remember to take the camera with you on calls? Are you officers and have a little more time to "stand back" (that that ever happens ;) ) and snap a few quick? I always leave my camera in my POV and the only shots i ever get are on my cell phone. Someday Brother i will be able to take some pictures, i hope they turn out great like these did. Keep up the good work, stay safe.

I am the dedicated department photographer. I am not a trained firefighter (I graduate high school Sunday) so they work and I show up in my POV and shoot.
I do however have a full set of turnouts that I wear around scenes for my own protection as well as staying warm/dry.

That's not of my department. Sorry if I misled you. I posted that video to show that sometimes the PD can be real jerks when it comes to us placing our apparatus so that we don't get run over.

Nice photos, comments regarding No1 are nothign that couldn't be sorted out with a few minutes work in PS.
As for the scene, and fend off's etc.
I was in NJ recently and attended a very good workshop/ class on safe working on highways.
The figures for deaths and injuries to emergency services workers are very sobering.
What might of helped bringing this to the fore in NJ was the recent case of the Dep't Chief being arrested on scene by Sate Troopers all because of an argument over scene safety.
The class i attended had some very useful and set out some good sensible protocols for joint services working.
Some aspects may seem strange to fire fighters, but if they save just one life or serious injury they are well worth following.
One thing is for certain, if something has the potential to go wrong and take someone out, you can bet a months wages sooner or later it will.

Bottom line is the woman was headed North on Rt. 1 had a diabetic attack or something swerved into the South lane and hit another car. The second car had 1 minor injury in it.
