In the short time we were out today we had the pleasure of viewing 4 deer. Two crossed the road in front of us, a buck and a doe...no pics of them. But we stumbled upon 2 more in a field just a short bit later. I did not realize until I looked at the pics that the second one was another smaller buck...he looked like a doe from where I was standing. I pulled out my camera and got a few shots off at 300mm, hand held unfortunately so they are not super sharp. BUT I shot my first deer and I was so excited. Under the circumstances I could not pull out my tripod...plus if I had, they probably wouldve run off anyways. Thought I would share them even if they are not perfect :) Enjoy!

They seem sharp enough, pretty shots. Wish those shadows of trees weren't there.

Thanks, guys :)

Unfortunately I was on a dirt road by the car and there was a great distance between me and the animals. They was a lot of brush and a fence along the roadside (down a small ravine) not to mention no tresspassing signs everywhere  I did get as close as I could since they were way out in the middle...one being in the guys backyard amongst the remains of gardens, sheds and the like. Maybe I will try playing in PS and see if I cant clear one up and free them of the close-up branches (they werent actually shadows at all).

They dont look to bad at this size, but at 100% they are not as focused as I would like. Perhaps I will get a second chance WITH a tripod soon :D

Any deer is a good deer. The more you photograph them the better you will get. Nice little spike horns.

Look pretty good to me, Nice job wish I could get a shot of a couple. The only time I see them is when they jump out in front of my car.

I certainly understand the difficulty of getting good animal shots, and didn't mean to sound critical of the branches (looking shadowy). They really aren't that big an issue.

Critique is a good thing and I appreciate the feedback...not to worry :D I agree, just unfortunately I couldnt do much different. Maybe next time...Im just excited to get a picture of such a large animal in the wild :D Actually, I think it is the only large animal I would want to run in to in the wild LOL ::bawk, bawk, cluck::
