I have enough money for two rolls of backdrop paper to get my "studio" going. I'm definitely getting white.
My other decision rest between "Super Black" and "Fashion Gray". The gray is a darker gray and I'm leaning towards that. It'll be another two weeks until I can get the next roll and I am buying a three roll backdrop stand tomorrow.
If you had a choice between the two, what would you go with? If you do a lot of studio shoots, what solid color do you end up using the most?

If I could only have two BG's, one would be white and the other would be black. With gels, the black BG can be lit to almost any color you choose.

Hey, since you're a mod, you think you could add his gel thread to the lighting FAQ sticky? That's an awesome thread.

I'd personally go with the gray. I like the way gray catches the gels alot more than black or white.
I started with white/black/gray muslins, and LOVED using the gray with gels. Yes, a black can be gelled, but i prefer the tone and saturation of a clor on the gray, especially blues, reds, and purples... They are just so bold and bright.
You can light a 18% (or darker) gray -1.5 stops and get a black anytime you want, too.

BTW, is that your phone I hear ringing? :D

I ordered the Savage paper rolls from B&H. $40 for something like 27 yards I think.

I saw those backdrops on that link before and was going to order from there, but thought maybe you know something else better or cheaper or high quality or more popular brand than Savage for example, but seems you think as i think or you chose what i was looking at before, well, i will go with that then unless another recommendations.
Thank you very much.

The savage paper rolls are pretty heavy. It's a lot heavier than I imagined. I just got it setup but I didn't get a chance to use it. I think it's worth the money.

I see, i will watch your results, in all cases i will keep using my muslin backdrops, and i think black and gray seamless paper what i need, white muslin can be blown out completely with strong light then no wrinkles can be shown, but with black and gray muslin this will be little difficult.
