So with my recent purcase of a 20d I've decided that I should sell off some of my older/less used camera gear. But I'm not sure what if my price is in the right range. All the gear is in mint condition...
300D w/ kit lens
75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM
Vertical battery grip + extra battery
Extra battery
Remote Release
maybe bag, if they wanted.
I was thinking $1100 shipped. DEAL or OVERPRICED? If anyone is interested I'll move this to buy and sell, but for now just need to know if my price is fair.

Seems extremely high, actually, especially with the current Canon rebates. After rebates that entire setup is only about $1060 brand new. $700 for rebel kit after rebate, $170 for the lens, $100 for the grip, $50 for a Canon battery and $40 for the release.

pcasc -- I'd adjust your prices a little bit: if you were going pure retail, you'd say
$999 for Rebel Kit
$230 75-300 lens
$150 grip
$40 battery
$30 remote release
$50 bag
That adds up to around $1500. I'd say $1100 is not a bad deal, but you could do better, especially since it's used. I would price at or under $1000.
It's sad that such a nice camera like the Digital Rebel goes for so cheap these days on Buy/Sell forums ... sometimes I see people selling them for $650 or less! D60 prices are just beginning to drop that low.

So I'm close then. I used B&H's prices and knocked off a few dollors. Adding up the prices I was going with I got $1050. I've never watched ebay and sales forums, but would a package like that sell for $1000, or should I break it up?

After rebate that is only 46 less than brand new (shipped!.
I'd say you need to come down at least $150 maybee $200
I lost a load on my DRebel too. Ive learned, invest in glass not bodies (until they are definately neded)

I strongly second that thought: it seems fashionable now to somewhat belittle the Rebel(300D here in the UK) in favour of the latest product - 10D and 20D. Apart from being much more expensive and giving a feel of having the latest and best what are the real advantages? The 10D seems to do little that the Rebel can't - the 20D has 8MP instead of 6MP but so what - surely for enlargements of 10"x8" for example 6MP is Totally adequate - so who needs more?
Will somebody please explain why they think I should discard my Rebel and 'upgrade'.

Rebel is a great camera, you can get some AMAZING photos from it. But the diferences are this (i'm comparing to the 20d, dont exactly know the specs on the 10D)
ISO In the rebel 800 is on the borderline and IMO 1600 is plain unuseable. 1600 on 20D has less noise than 800 on Rebel if not dang close
AFThe rebel does not allow you to manually switch to AI Servo. It would be close to impossible to shoot action w/o this. Also the AF is extremly faster on the 20D
Miror Lock Up rebel doesnt have it
Build Quality Rebel feels very cheap and leaves bad marks when scuffed, doesnt sound good but if your camera isn't strong it has a better chance of getting hurt
Flash Exposure Compensaiton If you don't have a 580/550 you are stuck with what it wants to output the flash at
ETTL 2
USB2
FPS Rebel has 2 frames per sec with a max of 4 20d = 5fps with like 20-30 max (depending on the cf card)
anyone else? I didn't copy paste this (for once :) ) so I probably forgot some

Most of the people don't have the pressure of getting "the shot"... especially on sporting events... not to they have adequate lenses like 300mm primes or 100-300 sigma.

And I just carry it with the kit lens in my bag all the time. No case... nothing.

1) How many people have ETTL 2 flashes? How many truely need it? (Pros do... no flames plz) I'm a happy thyristor user.
2) Card reader.

Mere 3 frames per second.

if you did... it wouldn't be much.
Right now, the difference between the rebel and 20D is like a difference between G3 and G4... or G5...
Unless you're pro... and/or shooting races... sports... grandkids full of sugar... The step up wouldn't be very noticeable in performance.
But then if I were to buy an DSLR right now and had some $$$, I'd get the 20D.
Cheers :)

E-TTL II is a camera, not a flash, function. Any EX flash will provide E-TTL II functionality on a camera which supports it.

Pure retail?!?!?! Who pays pure retail anymore?
Here are the prices I found with a quick search of the reputable, local places I shop from:
$693 Rebel Kit from Beach Camera (after $100 rebate)
$169 75-300mm USM III from Beach Camera
$99 Grip from B&H
$49 Canon battery from B&H
$25 Canon remote release from B&H
$25 Cheap bag
----------
$1060 (All Brand New)
Oh, yeah, and for about $1195 you could get the 75-300 IS, which is $425, but increases the rebates from $100 to $230.

At the beginning of December I bought the 300D but after reading about build quality etc, I decided on the 20D. So what did I do? I had bought the 300D body only, 70-200 2.8 IS lens, and the 50 1.4 lens. I sent all of that in on the rebate. The rebate with the lenses is $515. In the mean time, I put the 300D on ebay and sold it for $730.00. I only paid $740 for the camera shipped, so if you consider the $300 Canon rebate, I made about $300 on that sale. Many folks on ebay just don't know about the rebates but I was clear in my ebay ad that the upcs had been removed from the box. It was otherwise brand new. So having made a few hundred on the camera and the rebates on the lenses, I put that towards the 20D. Overall, it worked out beautifully.

I had a similar idea. I was thinking of doing just what you did and getting the Digital Rebel, 85 f/1.8 and 50 f/1.4 for $1400 total. That would earn almost $400 in rebates. If I could sell the brand new drebel on ebay for $700, I'd be getting those lenses for about $150 each. Not too bad.
