View Full Version : Questions about the Crumpler 6MDH

Okay guys, I'm currently using a Lowepro Photorunner (very small shoulder bag). I guess its great for travel, but it doesn't fit all my gear. I could fit my 40D, and all my lenses or 2 of my lenses + my flash...very tight fit but it does the job when I want to travel light.

I'm looking into the 6MDH as it doesnt really look like a camera bag and scream: "Hey, look, I have over $3000 of gear in my bag, please rob me now"

So I have a few questions:

1. I know the top flap barely gives any protection as it is not padded...Does the bottom/base of the bag have padding, is it a good amount?

2. I know it is not really a great all weather bag, but can it protect my gear from a sudden shower? (for a short period of time of course..I don't plan to sit in the rain hours and hours without running for shelter)

3. Does it come with the shoulder padding or are they sold separately?

4. Your input on the quality of the bag from a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best.

Thanks in advance!

Warning, I'm very biased towards Crumpler as I have the 5 and 6 MDH and sold the 7 MDH and Karachi Outpost (they're too big for what I now own gear-wise). :)

1) I've dropped my 5MDH a couple of times with the camera in it and never had any problems. The bottom (and sides) are nicely padded and should give you no worries about putting glass on the bottom (I put my 30D w/17-55 in lens down and have no problems).

2) It's fine if you don't overload it and tuck the little side flaps in.

3) The 6MDH and 7MDH come with the shoulder pad, the lower models do not.

4) 10. :)

BTW, be aware that the bag closes with a piece of velcro the size of Alaska. You can easily cover the hook side with gaffer's tape to stop the sound (it doesn't leave a residue). I did this for a wedding and it worked great on my 7MDH.

Buy it, you'll like it. :D BTW, it may not scream "camera gear", but it does scream "high quality bag, might be something nice inside since it's so nice looking outside". :D

heycow, I took your advice and hit the submit order @ ebags.com.

As for the high quality look of the bag, I'll just throw it in some dirt and mud before i start using it lol (j/k)

Thanks so much for your help! :D

He he no problem. Hope you're still able to buy lunch today... :D

(BTW, the bag is VERY resistant to dirt...you'll have to really rub it in to get anything to stick.) :D

May I ask you gents what colors are your 6MDH? Mine is in red. And I lufffff mine!

My 6MDH is black on oatmeal, my 5MDH is blue on yellow, and my 7MDH was black on blue. The blue 5MDH looks like a diaper bag (helps to have a 14 month old along with the bag). :) I like all the colors actually, and the bright yellow interior is great for finding small dropped items. :)

I have the purple/orange one and adore it!

I agree with it not taking on dirt - mine gets fairly abused as I don't really care too much where I put it down and it's still spotless. Even dog & kitty hair doesn't stick to it.

I love my Crumpler 6MDH - I routinely overstuff mine and it's still really comfortable and easy to carry around. You're gonna love it!

Wow, you guys are making Crumpler Bags sound invincible, Dirt doesn't stick, it repels pet hair...I don't suppose its bullet proof, increases ones confidence and gives you abilities to leap tall buildings =P. I kid..

Anyway, I ordered the Black/Oatmeal one. I'm a very boring person and black matches w/ everything, I wouldn't want to have to match my outfit w/ my bag if I did choose to go w/ a funky color =P

I ordered it yesterday and chose the free 3-6 day shipping and It feels like forever already..I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanks!

Dan - hopefully you'll love it! I should maybe have been clear...the outside doesn't attract stuff. The inside will hold pet hair (my cats LOVE to climb inside if I don't click it closed, but I can get most of it off by running my hand over it - and there's always the vacuum!

Funny you should ask. Since getting my Crumpler my health has improved and I am much more attractive to the opposite sex. I've gotten two raises at work and won the lottery. My dog is finally housebroken and am considering running for public office, because I'm sure I'd win.

Seriously, I really enjoy my Crumpler and it's fun to stuff it with camera gear and go out and take pictures. There's something about a Crumpler that just makes photography fun again.

Damn...I think the Crumplers I have were duds...When I got mine I got sick, my wife left me, I got fired and audited by the IRS. My dog peed on my last remaining pair of shoes and Bill Clinton ended up sleeping with my now ex-wife...

:D Sorry, couldn't resist. But yeah, I just took my 5MDH to a very crowded museum exhibit and even with everyone bumping into me I wasn't worried about theft or damage.

Wow, I need one of these bags!
Actually I am looking to get a bag And this one looks great. I kind of wanted a backpack style, but as long as this is comfortable it should be good. Think I could ride a bike with this bag on? How easy is it to adjust the straps? Might want to shorten them for a bike ride.

ROFL, you guys are hilarious. Looks like my 6 million dollar home will arrive in my $600 dollar rented home (apt actually) on Monday.

I'm super exited, I've been telling my friends that have not heard about crumpler bags about my purchase: a 6 Million Dollar Home. Most of them think I'm doing really well b/c I work on Wall St...so they actually think its a 6 million dollar property (but the fact is I'm making peanuts as I just began my career)....anyway I can't wait to show them the tag. It has a label somewhere that actually says 6 million dollar home right?

I don't think mine does. It has the crumpler logo on it, fairly discreetly. It's one of those "in the know" things ;)

I now find myself noticing when another person has a crumpler LOL It's very sad, but I always wonder what's in the bag!

Well, now that's interesting. When I used my LowePro, I became fat, my dog ran away with the neighbors pitbull, I had two flat tires and went bald, except for my butt, which turned weird colors, like those apes you see on TV. So, I got rid of the LowePro and life returned back to normal. Then I got the Crumpler and life much improved. Perhaps you should talk to the store clerk and explained you want the Crumplers that improve your life. Not just the ordinary Crumplers. After all, I talked to the store clerk for less than 10 minutes and he gave me the Crumpler free just to get me to leave. Gosh, what a good deal that was!;)

I was looking at getting the 7 mil, but wondering if it might be to big for the gear i'm getting?

I'll have the 40d and 4 lenses plus all other necessary accessories. Will the 6 mil work or should I stick with getting the 7?

What 4 lenses? Check my review on the 7MDH and that should help.

Thanx, I think I'll stick with the 7mil. The biggest lens of the 4 I will have is the EF 100-400 IS

Guys, I forgot to update. I received my 6MDH and I absolutely love it. Its well padded and very customizable. Its a little big in my opinion (fat)..so I will still use my lowepro photorunner for when I need to travel light...but its absolutely the perfect bag when I need to bring all my gear!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Do you guys think a 13,3" Dell XPS M1330 / Apple Macbook would fit in an 6MDH? Solely looking at the dimensions, I would say it would, but any personal experiences from members pehaps?

Yeah I think it would, but I don't think you will have room for the dividers and your camera gear...

Surely it's the wrong type of camera bag for a notebook. Cameras and lenses etc only. Doesn't really have long thin pockets intended for notebooks.

Might, the 7MDH just fits a 14". Check my laptop conversion of the 7MDH. Might be able to do something like that for the 6MDH.

I have the oatmeal and green one. Works out great for the nature photography. The quality of the 6MDH really blew me away. I read all the posts about how nice they were but they are really excellent.
