so my cf card collection is building and this sounds like a lame question but what carrying case do you guys use (if any) that you would recommend?

ThinkTank Pixel PocketRocket (http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_PxlPcktRckt.php). Holds 10 cards and has a clip so you don't lose it as easily.

I will second the Pixel Pocket Rockets, I have 2 of them, 1 for 1 gig cards and 1 for 2 gig cards. Also has a clear window for business cards.

At home: in a drawer organiser (along with my remotes and batteries).
Out: in their plastic cases in my bag. Vendor's label showing: card empty; White label showing: card full

I actually have that as well; I fill a couple of the CF slots with SD-CF adapters (holding SD cards) for versatility.

^ good idea if you have more than 3 SDs. I avoid them like the plague, but I do have ~3.

My A620 and A630, as well as my wife's SD600 (and the 1D3) use SD or SDHC.

Since I have each CF paired with an SD/SDHC, I put them in pairs inside little plastic baggies when empty & then toss 'em loose in a velcro-closed chestvest pocket when filled. They're numbered so I can keep them matched up...especially after they've been used.

Yeah, I hear you Jon. Both my P&Ss use them still and I picked up my first for my 1DmII... But I've also broken 3 SDs, so like I said, I avoid them whenever possible. But it's inevitable that I end up needed a few.

i use one of those folding cases that holds four cards, two in each side. i have four 8-gig cards in the case, as well as an 8-gig card in my mark III and a 4-gig card in my 30d.

Currnetly have 5 2gig cards one in camera 4 in black plastic case. Empty cards face lable out and up full cards label in and card rightside up. I turn cards upside down after downloading to laptop (if I have it with me). Or at least that is the Idea sometimes in heat of changing cards I forget. Only thing I don't like is black plastic. I am thinking of painting it some hard to miss color like caution yellow or bright red something that would be hard to miss If I put it down. John

I have a litle Lowepro wallet that holds up to about 8 cards but I only have 3 slots filled. Small mesh pocket on one side that holds a bunch of biz cards as well.

I use the $3 dollar CF holder from Wal*Mart. Holds 8. It works fine, but am looking for something better.

I use the Pixel PocketRocket too, very nice case. I keep the empty cards face up and the full cards face down.

For the Think Tank Pixel Pocket Rocket, it says CF cards but how do SD cards fit? I am guessing they are a little loose or just two can be crammed in one slot? Any ideas?

I've been looking at getting the ThinkTank holder, but this is what I'm currently using now... http://products.lowepro.com/product/DMC-Z,1928,42.htm

Lowepro DMC-V. Not as big as the ThinkTank but it goes on my belt/strap with easy access. I try and compose my shots rather than 'machine gun' them so even 2Gb cards last a while when shooting RAW. Oh, and I usually carry a spare in my pocket in the little plastic holder (belt and braces stuff ;))

I use Gepe Extreme cases - water tight and they hold CF or SD.

Anther vote for the Gepe products line. I use the extremes and also the GepeCard Safe Basic Duo. The fabric cases offer too much flex and not enough protection for me.

I use the LowePro PixelPaks (model V1 for SD cards, and model V2 for CF cards).

http://products.lowepro.com/product/PixelPak-V1,1993.htm

The neckstrap I have also has a pocket that accommodates two CF cards, although I do not use it that much.

Agreed. IMHO, the soft cases are fine, but you should keep the cards in their plastic holders while stored in those cases. For me, I would not place the cards "naked" in the holder.

SD maybe; CF cards are plenty tough (http://www.compactflash.org/pr/040823.pdf). Anything that's going to damage a CF card will demolish your camera and/or lenses in the process. And the Mini Pixel Pocket Rocket (the one with SD cards) has a hard reinforced strip behind the SD pockets.

kaitanium

yea CF cards i could just store naked and not worry even the slightest about it being crushed if i should sit on my soft case or not.

btw. i just ordered from adorama and they are out of stock....a great test of patience hahaha

Thanks Jon, I'll check this out.
