OK, this is not a world-breaking original one, but certainly a shot you need to take if opportunity crosses your path :) . I tried to catch the light in the leave and get rid as much as possible from a distracting background.
I used my G3 in Macro mode with a +3+1 diopter mounted on the front. (Shutter Speed 1/125, Aperture f/2.5 (for minimal DOF), Focal Length 17.6 mm). I then of course used PS to adjust levels and increase a little contrast. Also I sharpened, which made the ice look more crispy (I think).

Since there are many such shots as comparison, how does this one look relatively? How does it succeed or fail?

I like it! The background is very pleasing. One to hang on the wall.

Nice capture Marc, I like the overall image a lot, really like the back lighting - perhaps just a little crop of the empty space on the bottom edge.

I agree it would be perfect if you crop the bottom. :D

All,

Thanks for the kind words. The feedback was consistent about cropping of a piece of the bottom. I agree with that. Here is the adjusted version.
