So guys, my moms friend saw some of my work with animals, sports flowers you know things like that but i really havent done any portrait shots. She wants me to take some pictures of her daughter for fathers day and she understands that im new at this. So im up for any advice suggestions anything. My gear is in my sig, and im assuming most are going to say use the nifty fifty.

Yes, the 50mm is a wonderful portrait lens. Here's my advice.
1. Do it outdoors about an hour before sundown.
2. Don't shoot wide open, you will have focus issues. Keep it like 3.5 - 5.6.
3. Keep that SS up! 1/125 minimum, preferably over 1/200.
4. Have fun! I am unsure how old this child is but have fun with them, follow them around and capture natural smiles.. :)
Good luck!

Good luck!in my humble inexperienced opinion 125 is too slow for kids, unless they are sleeping or tied to a tree :)
