View Full Version : Canon A70 viewer problems

I purchased a PowerShot A70 last year and now the view screen
is completely distorted with black and white wavy lines while in camera mode.
The view screen appears to work fine while viewing pictures on the
memory card that were taken when the viewer was operating, But any
picture taken now just appears with the lines from the view screen. Two
of my friends had purchased the same model around the same time as me
and have had similar problems, but they had to ship their cameras out in
order to have them fixed.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Canon says it will cost at least $100 to have it fixed or I can buy someone else's busted one that they supposedly fixed for $150.

Thanks,
Matt

If pictures taken before these lines began showing up display all right, it rather sounds like the problem's with your sensor, not the screen. Do these lines show up when you look at the pictures on a computer?

Pictures taken when the viewer is working appear fine on the camera and on my PC. If I take a picture when the viewer is not working the lines appear both on the camera and on my PC. So it sound like you are right, that it is a problem with the sensor.

Any ideas on how to correct it?

Thanks for the reply,

Matt

Unless you want to get a repair manual and poke around inside by yourself hoping to find a bad connection or replace the sensor, sending it to Canon's about your only option.
