Hey guys, was just at Fry's today and was looking at photo-editing software. I thought i was set on PSE6, but then i read the box and it looks like its more for people who want to goof around with their pictures and add text, make scrapbook pages, and add all types of silly spec. effects. Then i see this software by Correl, and it looks enticing. I've heard one good thing about it before, but wondering if any of you use it. Will PSE6 give me the editing options i want (dodge/burn, HDR, lines, curves, CA correction etc. etc.), or should i try out this Paint Shop Pro by Correl?

I use Paint Shop Pro 8.1 and love it. Does everything I want to do. Have yet to try Corel's version since they purchased it from Jasc, but I'm sure it's been improved. And the price is right!

I've been using PaintShop Pro for years; currently using 7, X and XI on various machines. Corel munged the UI, but it's still a good program.

oh also, i've been reading reviews, and some said that its basically useless for RAW. Kinda defeats the purpose...

oh also, i've been reading reviews, and some said that its basically useless for RAW. Kinda defeats the purpose...Well, X and XI support RAW up to what cameras had been released when they went Gold. I always used Raw Shooter Professional for RAW conversion; it doesn't support the 1D3, so I use DPP now. But you'll always have trouble with 3rd party software trying to keep up with the latest hardware.

so does x2 have its own raw converter, or was it designed mostly for jpegs.

I have used Paintshop Pro since the first version and like it. Would I rathere have a copy of Photoshop, yes but that is a little too much for my budget. If you would like to find out if you like it go to Corel website and download a copy it works for 30 days and is the full version.

use the built-in tutorials. Before Corel bought up JASC Software they had a nice online learning site. I first used PSP 4, then 6 and 8 now have X2. I also have PSE 4 which came with a digital camera a couple years ago and the whole Adobe CS3 Pro Suite which I use mostly for video. I find I still do things in PSP that are quicker and easier than in PS, but as I get more used to PS that margin narrows.

PSE6 can do a lot more than "goofing around" with photos. I have PSE5 and Camera Raw is really good. I opened RAW files in both PSE5 and PSP X, but didn't like the RAW abilities of PSP X. They both allow you to download a full version for 30 days. Download both and see what you like best. I think they're similarly priced.

I have been using PSP for a couple of years, fairly good program at a reasonable price.

It is probalbly not the best raw convertor and unless you are going to do quite a lot of manipulation, then a good raw convertor may be the way to go. I use Bibble Pro and it is fantastic. Lots of options and pretty user friendly (with the exception of the print engine)

But PSP is certainly worth the money, as suggested, download the trial (full) version and try it.
