What do you think about this lens?

I'm thinking of getting this lens, but when I look at the larger pictures, it looks kind of rough. Are those knicks and scratches common, or do they indicate abuse? I'd say it's been rattling around loose in his gadget bag. Not necessarily a sign it's been abused as much as well-used.

Thanks Jon. I decided to go ahead and get a new one. The price was great, and it was a hard choice... but if it's that old it makes me wonder about other things.
