I have found this guy to be the most difficult small bird to get a pic of. When they land on the limb near my feeder they instantly jump on the feeder. This is the only one that come out decent after over 50 tries. He looks like he is in motion even when he is sitting still!! :) Its just too cold here for many bird pic's.

Great shot. I understand what you are talking about. I've got some red breasted nuthatches that hit the feeder and take off right away. The other day though just to see what would happen, I stood under the feeders with seed in my hand. A couple of chickadees landed and then a nuthatch landed and actually spent a good 15 seconds before taking some seed and flying off. Pretty cool. :)

Beautfiul! I've been trying to nail down a good one of the nuthatch that visits my feeder as well. Haven't succeeded yet! Good job:D

Great shot Jerry. And yes, they ain't easy. They're usually gone by the time your brain tells your finger to press down.

Jerry -
Superb shot. The blue-gray colors are subtle in their gradations. Looks like you got them just right.
BTW - that looks like the same fella I was chasing in my backyard this summer. I couldn't get him to pose so nicely - certainly not for 50 shots!

Fantastic shot Jerry, Yup they are no doubt the fastest birds at the feeder. Maybe we should spike the seed with a little Prozac to calm them down.

Thanks for the compliments. Not much to shoot locally so the bird feeder is my best bet. I am trying to get better shots than I did last year., I am thinking about moving the feeder closer. Its about 10' now I could make it 2' and shoot with the 100mm macro :)

That's one of my goals in life: a 20x30 print of a sparrow's eyeball.
