OK since I just got my Skyports I want to have some fun using them outdoors with a speedlight. Right now I have a 420EX and are planning in getting a 430EX so I can be able to control the output by putting the flash on manual something I can't do with my 420EX. Also I want to be able to use another speedlight as a background light with my Alien bees in my home studio. THe only problem is that Canon's EX speedlights don't take optical slaves. So as of right now I have planned

A: 430EX to take outdoors and use with my skyports.
B: I need, (Please Recommend) a flash that I can use in manual mode that I can use ,attach an optical slave to so I can trigger this flash. Would a Nikon SB-24 be good enough or is there a more less expensive flash that would do the trick. Basically I nee a flash I can attach an optical slave too and use it in manual mode.

I'm a big fan on the SunPak 383. It's a great flash for using manual control with for off camera flash and its reasonably priced. You can get two or three of them for the price of a 430ex.

Optical slave function is poor outside.

They will work nicely inside for ad hoc studio work.

Enjoy! Lon

I agree with the two previous responders. The Sunpak 383 is a nice unit and will work with any hotshoe type or PC connected optical slave.

But for outdoor use, you'll want another Skyport receiver.
