Just for fun my fiancee let these bacteria grow in the lab (they were collected from the air inside a storage room which is an anex to our house). We printed postcards to her colleagues and agreed the pictures were like art. At least I am sure they could inspire an artist.
I used my Canon 60mm macro lens, no flash, tripod and f:16. The picture was colourcorrected using the "auto colourcorrection" in Photoshop 6. My fiancee was so enthusiastic she wouldn't fall asleep. (Good thing as she thinks I have spent a lot on equipment and said so).
I wasn't allowed to work with the bacteria inside, so a bench in the garden came in handy.
Awful to think that we breath these creatures each day, but so it is. C&C most welcome!

I was expecting images from an electron scanning microscope you had been allowed the use of but nevertheless not without interest.

Lovely colonies - certainly different :)- think they are all moulds though. Something I am used to seeing- did my Thesis on the mould Aspergillus nidulans.

Same here. But still awesome. This is a cool idea.

Correctly, they are moulds.

That's a cool pic - looks like some of the things found in my fridge in containers long forgotten about.

Awesome :D I love watching (smelling is a different story) growing cultures! I did my undergrad work on Chromobacterium violaceum. The wonders of the invisible world!
