I purchased tickets for Yeovilton International Air Day today. A paragraph of small print on the back of the ticket clearly indicates that, no one attending the Air Day may sell or license photos without prior written permission from the organisers.

There is a similar paragraph on the RIAT ‘08 website terms and conditions.

Are POTN members who will be attending Yeovilton International Air Day or RIAT ‘08 aware of this?

Is it illegal to sell photos taken at these events without permission from the organisers?

I can post the small print if required.

Moderators if this is more suitable for the business of photography please move.

Is it illegal to sell photos taken at these events without permission from the organisers? Generally, yes. Depends on how much they're willing to pursue it, & some organizations like the NFL will.

Forum search links don't last long, so I don't post them.

If you do a "Advanced" forum KEYWORD search in "Search Titles Only" for credentials, you will find a lot of help. Moderators if this is more suitable for the business of photography please move. I have to move it, as it's not a share pictures thread.

That caveat is quite common for motor sport events/tracks and I think airshows but as for RIAT have a look at this post http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=5682123&postcount=19 if you are in the farmers field you are "not at the show", so free to sell as appropriate I would surmise.

:)

PS I read somewhere that there is thin line in such matters between selling prints for profit vs selling for editorial purposes. The latter is not deemed commercial selling in the realm of that caveat ~ do take what I say with a pinch of salt as it is only my understanding.
