30D - 85 1.8 Flash with diffuser....does this look ok? She got dirty after a soccer game!

Nice shot, would make good stock if it weren't for the logo I suppose.

Why the silly 45 degree frame tilt? "Dirt" looks way too phony. There are no shades of gray or brown -- just clean bright white with jet black smudges ... and that strange black line down the arm must have been from an exploding ball point pen. The overall result looks more like a bout with changing the toner cartridge on a laser printer. Maybe that explains the statement, "Got Dirty After Soccer Game".

It's not the camera ... it's the photographer. Apparently you are not mature enough yet to handle a critique.

Play nicely, you asked for critique and got some.

I was alsways told that a critique, starts with a good comment :(

That's from the kiss, kick, kiss school of thought. This is used at schools where you are a paying student.

Bill means you no disrespect. His critiques are generally honest and straight forward. Maybe slightly blunt but so be it.

I half agree, it does look staged to some degree. But I could see this image in copy as an advertisement for a female driven sports product.

OK...so I have a lot to learn, I thought it was a cool senior photo.

i think his comments were accurate
i dont know if they were relevant
most people would like the photo regardless of its "flaws"
most people like photos of pretty girls

I never said you had a lot to learn. One could not make that determination based upon seeing a single photo. I know everything but could still show you a photo that could be critiqued harshly.

They are opinions. You ask to receive them and hopefully they are given honestly. Sometimes they will be as you hoped and sometimes they won't. Maybe you learn from them and maybe you think Bill is on crack. It's never personal.

Overall I think it is a good photo, the "dirt" did strike me as looking a little funny, but if the client is happy, who cares. I do think you could improve the photo in a couple of ways.

1. The sky seems to be overexposed.
2. More light in her eyes.

Like the composition, but I agree the dirt is too staged, and there is an awful lot of it?
