On both images, you've certainly got the exposure spot on.

The composition for #1 does not do any thing for me, its ok...

The 2nd image I really like the composition, but seems to be lacking detail that I would have expected as if its been over processed or has lacked sharpening. Maybe its better in the full size image ?

lacking detail? I dont get you... i did a bit of USM and crop but not much. I will post the original soon.

would of expanding the "borders" a slight bit help?
put alittle space on top of the chiney
get the whole circle of the rotunda
often more is NOT better
but it depends on the shot i think......
